Our History
Before adopting the name Foothills Caledonia Youth Pipe Band in the fall of 2019, we were proudly known as the Ogden Legion Pipe Band. Originally established in 1972, the Ogden Legion Pipe Band (OLPB) was sponsored by the Royal Canadian Legion, Ogden Branch #154 in Southeast Calgary. Even after the closure of the Ogden Branch, the band continued to carry its name with pride, honouring the strong connection to its legion roots.
Today, as the Foothills Caledonia Youth Pipe Band, we continue to build on that rich legacy. While our name has changed, our commitment to excellence and tradition remains unchanged. We are deeply grateful to the generations of members who shaped our journey, and we look ahead with excitement to the future of youth piping and drumming in Southern Alberta.

When young people make music, they make confidence, community, and joy.
More than Music
Many of our instructors are accomplished former members who bring passion, expertise, and a deep understanding of the band experience. With their guidance, our youth gain not only top-level musical instruction but also the opportunity to be part of something truly special.
Being part of our band means more than just learning an instrument - it’s about building confidence, teamwork, and lasting friendships. Our vibrant community is further strengthened by a dedicated parent association that supports our
instructors and members every step of the way.

Our Tartan
Our band proudly wears the Royal Stewart tartan - a striking red pattern highlighted with lines of black, yellow, and blue. Traditionally associated with the Royal House of Stewart, which ruled Scotland from 1371 to 1714, it has long been recognized as the personal tartan of the British Royal Family. Its bold colours and historic roots make it one of the most iconic and widely loved tartans in the world, and a perfect fit for our band’s spirit and pride.
